How does it work?

The IRIS-XP operates by detecting naturally emitted infrared radiation from the surface of the body and converting it into high-resolution thermal images. These images visualise temperature distribution and variation, which may be associated with underlying physiological activity. The system is designed for use by trained professionals within a controlled clinical environment.

Detection of Infrared Radiation

All objects, including the human body, emit infrared energy.

The IRIS-XP uses a high-sensitivity uncooled microbolometer detector to capture this infrared radiation within the 8–14 micron spectral range.

 

This allows the system to measure subtle temperature differences across the skin surface without physical contact.

Conversion into Thermal Images

Captured infrared data is converted into a visual heat map.

The system:

  • Displays real-time thermal images

  • Automatically adjusts image level and contrast

  • Provides digital zoom and autofocus

  • Compensates for ambient room temperature

This ensures consistent, high-quality image capture suitable for professional assessment.

Image Guidance and Positioning

The IRIS-XP includes a motorised stand and remotely controlled rotating camera head to support accurate positioning.

Built-in imaging guidance helps ensure:

  • Standardised body positioning

  • Repeatable imaging protocols

  • Consistency between sessions

This is particularly important for longitudinal monitoring and comparative analysis.

Thermal Pattern Analysis

Once images are captured, the system’s software tools support structured review.

Features include:

  • Region-of-interest (ROI) selection

  • Automated ROI comparison

  • Standardised reference temperature data

  • Image optimisation tools

  • Pain mapping visual correlation

These tools assist professionals in observing thermal patterns within the context of broader clinical evaluation.

Storage and Longitudinal Comparison

Images can be stored and compared over time.

This enables:

  • Follow-up imaging

  • Monitoring of thermal changes

  • Structured documentation within patient records

The system is suitable for repeated use, as it involves no ionising radiation and no physical compression.

  • Is not a standalone diagnostic device
